Accom Adds MPEG Capability, Increased Storage to Abekas 6000 Server at NAB 2001
Accom® (OTCBB: ACMM), (NAB Booth S4806) a leader in broadcast and professional video products, announced an enhanced dual-format version of the class-leading Abekas® 6000 MultiFlex™ DTV Server at the NAB 2001 exhibition. Now featuring both MPEG-2 and DVCPRO compression in the same server as a standard feature, the Abekas 6000 allows either format to be selected as required.
Also new for 2001, the Abekas 6000's storage capacity is increased, with up to 130 hours capacity in a single compact 8RU chassis. With the optional disk expansion chassis, capacity rises to 390 hours, and with networked Abekas 6000s, there is storage for more than 12,000 hours of online material.
Leading broadcasters, remote facility providers and post-production houses including Turner Studios, NEP, All Mobile Video, H.O.T Channel and Complete Post have chosen the Abekas 6000 for its versatility, power and robustness. With its instant selection of any combination of input/output configurations on 8 channels, familiar VTR-style hardware control panels, intuitive TruClip™ clip handling, and a robust real-time operating system, the Abekas 6000 sets new standards for ease of use and flexibility in any broadcast or post environment.
In prestigious live broadcast events like the Wimbledon Tennis Championships, Goodwill Games and the 73rd Academy Awards®, the Abekas 6000 has proven itself a rock-solid powerhouse with the performance to deliver in the most demanding applications.
"We looked at other servers but the Abekas 6000 won hands down," commented William Chapman, Vice-President, Turner Studios. "Reliability is an important factor in live environments. The redundant systems built into the Abekas 6000 gives us the confidence to fully use its capabilities without worrying about a back-up plan."
"The Abekas 6000 is already the most versatile and user-friendly server on the market," said Douglas Johnson, Senior Product Developer. "We've responded to customer demand by increasing that versatility with the addition of MPEG-2 compression. The Abekas 6000 is now the only server to feature user-selectable choice of compression standards in one server, instant user configuration of input or output on 8 channels, redundant warm-swap capability on all major system components, and an interface with custom-hardware control panels designed for broadcasters, not computer experts."
