Acrodyne Places First Rohde & Schwarz Solid-State, High Power, Digital Transmitter On The Air at Sinclair WBFF-DTV 46
March 30, 2000
The 5kW broadband UHF Rohde & Schwarz / Acrodyne transmitter is solid-state and fully compliant with FCC and ATSC requirements. This transmitter is part of a comprehensive line of solid-state transmitters rated up to 10kW average DTV power that is exclusively sold, serviced, and supported by Acrodyne in the United States.
Nat Ostroff, Chairman of the Board of Acrodyne and Vice President of New Technology for Sinclair, stated, "This is a major milestone for Acrodyne, Rohde & Schwarz, and Sinclair. The installation of the Rohde & Schwarz solid-state digital transmitter readies Sinclair to provide either 8-VSB or COFDM transmitters as the market requires and regulation will allow".
Harvey Arnold, Director of Engineering for the Sinclair Broadcast Group, commented, "This transmitter is a first class product. Its measured performance exceeded all expectations. Installation was quick and easy, and the product performs well. The Rohde & Schwarz design team has developed a really nice solid-state product. These transmitters should be the perfect solution for many television broadcasters. We are looking forward to completing the installations of three more similar transmitters over the next few months."
Sinclair Broadcast Group (NASDAQ:SBGI) is a diversified broadcasting company that currently owns or programs 61 television stations. Sinclair's television group reaches approximately 25% of U.S. television households and includes ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, WB, and UPN affiliates.
