Artel Demonstrates Digital TV Transport over Broadband Networks at NAB 2001

April 23, 2001

Demonstrates solution with Marconi to enable robust Quality of Service functionality and remultiplexing capability for digital TV to be delivered to cable TV headends and Telecommunications DSLAMs over packet-based networks

Artel Video Systems announced it will team with Marconi on a solutions demonstration showing the transport of digital television programming over an intelligent broadband network at the National Association of Broadcasters Convention and Exhibition, NAB 2001, April 23rd –26th. The telecommunications and video networking markets are the target audiences for this solution. Applications of this technology include video distribution for Video-on-Demand, interactive TV and digital TV for DSL.

The demonstration, to be held in Marconi's NAB booth I6516 at the Sands Convention Center, will feature Marconi's high performance ASX™ series switches, which provide the wide area network switching. Artel's Cross Stream™ 155 Video Access Multiplexer enables the digital television programming, in the form of MPEG-2, to be adapted onto Marconi's broadband network while providing functionality for transport stream remultiplexing and cell delay variation (jitter) management as well as critical quality-of-service (QoS) requirements needed to transport real-time video.

"The demonstration of our Cross Stream product line with Marconi's intelligent broadband switches gives our customers an opportunity to see first hand the transport of digital TV over packet networks," said Mike Riley, senior vice president, sales and marketing at Artel. "Our goal is to show that broadcast quality digital television can be reliably transported over intelligent broadband-based WANs creating a powerful digital television transport infrastructure."
