FOX News Channel, seeking a fiber optic solution for the Democratic and Republican National Conventions, approached Multidyne. It was FOX's intention to reduce the costs and weight of an old copper solution for their video transport needs at each of the venue sites for the year 2000 election. After several months of research, engineers at FOX decided that the 12 bit video and 24 bit audio fiber optic transport system from Multidyne was the only choice for their demanding standards and limited budget.

An additional concern was flexibility of use. FOX not only intended to use the fiber optic systems at the remote venue, but for fixed installations after the elections. The Multidyne DVM-2000 met this requirement.
