TANDBERG Television MPEG-4 AVC Compression For Telenor IPTV

IBC 2008
SOUTHAMPTON, England--(BUSINESS WIRE)--TANDBERG Television, part of the Ericsson Group (NASDAQ:ERIC), today announced that its MPEG-4 AVC compression and IP multiplexing solutions are being used by Telenor Satellite Broadcasting to provide IP video contribution and direct-to-consumer IPTV services in Scandinavia. TANDBERG Television is providing encoding and multiplexing from six locations across northern Europe and Scandinavia, with all video distributed across an IP transport network for IPTV consumer services in Sweden, Norway and Denmark.

"This is an important project for Telenor Satellite Broadcasting and provides Telenor with a way to encode video at source for delivery over an all-IP transport network that forms the backbone for IPTV services," says Torkel Thoresen, Chief Technologist at Telenor Satellite Broadcasting. "TANDBERG Television's MPEG-4 AVC IP solutions enable us to contribute and distribute these IPTV services in a cost-effective and reliable way."

As part of each all-IP head-end, Telenor Satellite Broadcasting is deploying TANDBERG Television's ISIS 8000 IP system, which incorporates EN8030 MPEG-4 AVC encoders and MX8400 IP multiplexers. The equipment is controlled and monitored via TANDBERG Television's nCompass Control.

"We are honored that Telenor Satellite Broadcasting has chosen our market leading MPEG-4 AVC compression for this significant IP video solution," comments Eric Baron, President of EMEA at TANDBERG Television. "This deployment once again demonstrates our ability to deliver the highest-quality video for IP networks, whether for contribution, distribution or direct-to-consumer applications."
