Nielsen to monitor PVR usage for Metabyte
Nielsen Media Research (NMR) has agreed to measure audience usage of Metabyte's (Fremont, CA) personal television products and services.
Under the terms of the agreement, households using Metabyte-enabled products and services will be measured within the existing national and local NMR television samples. Metabyte has developed a personal video recorder (PVR) platform, which allows digital recording of television programming onto hard drives. The company is partnering with Thomson multimedia to integrate its technology into future PVRs from Thomson. Disk manufacturer Seagate is also an investor.
Nielsen is also working on a similar project to determine future advertising scenarios for the PVR future (see New ‘TV Lab' to explore future value of television).
