The CNN News Group (Atlanta) says it will expand its contract with Virage, Inc. (San Mateo, CA) to manage its Digital Archives, a project that encompasses more than 100,000 hours of video footage.

CNN has worked with Virage for three years and has used Virage throughout its news organization. CNN uses the Virage Video Application Platform to index all of its incoming feeds and supply storyboards and metadata to the journalists' desktops for immediate access to video information.

"We are pleased to be extending Virage's enabling technology for digital production and distribution," said Gordon Castle, senior vice president, strategic digital systems for CNN. "We have enjoyed a long-standing relationship with Virage and look forward to expanding our use of their technology."

Virage develops technology to enable owners of video content to publish, manage and distribute their video assets over the Internet or corporate Intranets.
