The COS-1A was designed for reliable operation and easy maintenance. Dual redundant power supplies are
employed with front panel bicolor LED output voltage monitoring. All switching is accomplished with high reliability latching relays which
maintain their contact position in the event of total power loss. Power supplies and the control card may thus be swapped out without disturbing the signal paths. Long term reliability is further improved with low power
consumption resulting in lower operating temperatures.
Each COS-1A includes a control network interface and address switch allowing up to 256 changeover switches to be connected to one or more monitoring/control panels. Such a configuration would allow remote switch position indication and remote switching. Such a network would utilize coax cable and the rear loop through connections.
