Avid Executive Named One of the Top 25 Women On the Web Janette Bradley Recognized as One of Today's Leading Women in the Internet Industry by San Francisco Women on the Web

April 9, 2001

Avid Technology, Inc. announced today that Janette Bradley, Ph.D., director of AvidProNet(TM), has been chosen as one of the Top 25 Women on the Web by the professional organization San Francisco Women on the Web (SFWoW). The award honors 25 women who have inspired others with their efforts to advance technology, contribute to the community and demonstrate the success of a businesswoman in the Internet and new media industries. Janette will accept the award on April 24th, at a gala event in San Francisco, which will honor the 25 recipients.

Janette was chosen from more than 200 nominees worldwide by a panel of judges consisting of past Top 25 award winners. An accomplished author of various technical publications, Janette has pioneered many new uses of Internet technology, and her work at Avid is no exception.

Changing the Way Media Is Made
Janette joined Avid because of its mission to change the way media is created by networking the desktops of some of the most creative individuals in the world. As the leading force behind AvidProNet, the groundbreaking professional media services site, Janette has been a central part of the team that has seen to it this vision has not only survived, but thrived in a time where some of the strongest names in the Internet economy are faltering. "From day one, I knew that I would have to create something that would be profitable," she says. "It never entered any of our minds that we could burn cash indefinitely. We've stayed disciplined and lean. How many business-to-business sites can say that?"

Janette has consistently reinforced and adhered to the Avid vision of Make, Manage and Move Media(TM). Together, her team was able to develop and launch the AvidProNet site (www.avidpronet.com) in a mere six weeks. The team has since moved beyond "reaching out" to Avid customers to creating the basis of a Virtual Production Environment (VPE)--the AvidProNet Review & Approval(TM) service. The Review & Approval service takes the traditionally time-consuming and inefficient tape and mail-based process of reviewing and approving video and streamlines and improves the process by taking it--securely, efficiently and with significant workflow improvements--onto the Internet. This is the first in a series of innovations scheduled for release in the next year to create a completely new way of working for media professionals.

"Media production is a costly and highly distributed process. Rarely, are all of the people and assets that you need for a project in one place, and the cost and time to bring them together can be monumental," states Janette. "Virtual Production Environments will connect these assets and processes via the Internet, streamlining workflow and allowing media creators to work where they want, when they want."

Although just launched earlier this year, the Review & Approval service has already begun to revolutionize the post-production process and has shown media professionals new and more efficient workflows that can get projects completed more quickly and cost effectively. And thanks to the introduction and success of the Review & Approval service and Avid's vision of the VPE, page views on the AvidProNet site have spiked to more than 1 million a month with an average visitor session lasting more than 20 minutes. Looking back now, Janette is thankful for the support of the entire Avid team.

"There was so much pressure on our CEO and CTO to go after the content streaming business. Places like Digital Entertainment Network and various film festivals came out of the woodwork in 1999," remarks Janette. "I will admit that it was hard during the dot-hype period. My team and I seemed woefully out of step by concentrating on other things, like using the Internet for collaborative workflow and increasing efficiency. Thankfully the company supported the vision of an AvidProNet VPE. We're not just using the Internet to do things a new way - we're helping our customers do things in a better way and that's what makes us different."
