BigBand Announces Additional SDV Deployments For Cox Communications

Expanded switched digital video architecture increases bandwidth efficiency, helping Cox deliver more HDTV programming and services to more screens
Redwood City, CA - BigBand Networks, Inc., recently announced that Cox Communications, the third-largest U.S. cable operator, has further expanded its switched digital video (SDV) architecture to new markets with BigBand's SDV solution. Deployed in both Motorola and Cisco set-top box environments, Cox uses the solution to deliver more HDTV programming and services to more screens by increasing the bandwidth efficiency of its network.
Cox began deploying the BigBand SDV solution in 2007. This latest expansion allows Cox to leverage its existing network infrastructure investments and send more high-quality programming to its subscribers without service disruption.
"SDV is one of our key tools to address the bandwidth demands critical to delivering a wide variety of quality programming and services to our customers," said James Kelso, Vice President of Video Engineering for Cox Communications. "BigBand continues to demonstrate that they have the processes and support mechanisms that make it easy to deploy SDV with minimum impact to our operations and resources."
"We believe that SDV is the best choice for today's MSOs seeking to reclaim bandwidth so they can offer more HD, VOD and other personalized services to their subscribers across any viewing screen. Cox was an early adopter of SDV architecture, and it is an honor to be selected by them again," said Amir Bassan-Eskenazi, CEO, President and Co-founder of BigBand Networks.
