Independent Filmmakers Depend On Avid|DS HD

April 18, 2001

Avid Technology, Inc. today announced that Tigers: Tracking a Legend, a documentary film currently under negotiation for distribution on the Discovery Channel, was produced using the newly released Avid®|DS HD system. The documentary is just one of many projects independent filmmakers are producing with Avid|DS HD, the industry's premiere nonlinear production (NLP™) system for real-time conforming and finishing of projects at multiple non-compressed HDTV and 601 formats.

"I chose the Avid system because of its engineering excellence and its ability to organize very, very complex jobs with multiple tracks," said Carole Amore, an independent filmmaker who spent three months in India producing Tigers: Tracking a Legend. "I was dealing with an incredible amount of footage, and you really can't do a good job developing a story unless you have a methodology that works for you. The Avid|DS HD allowed me to manage the process faster and easier, while still offering high-definition quality -- clearly the future of filmmaking."

Another upcoming program produced using the Avid|DS HD system is the PBS program
One World Japan, edited by the Washington, DC-based production house Team Video.

"The show's producer called Avid|DS HD the best system he'd ever worked on," said Team Video editor Chris Edwards. "We were really happy that we were able to re-edit images in full high-definition. Using this system, our producer could see the footage and still make changes, and with the final product, the pictures looked great: sharp and colorful. We even did some color correcting and it improved the quality of the pictures," Edwards added.

Creative Freedom and Flexibility with Avid|DS HD
The Avid|DS HD system has the ability to finish programs at multiple non-compressed HDTV and SDTV formats – a quality that enables companies to offer HDTV capabilities to their customers without the need to invest in dedicated HD-only suites. The Avid|DS HD system is reliable, flexible and interoperable with other Avid systems and third-party products. It is an ideal solution for customers seeking a high-quality, low-risk path to offering HD finishing. The product has the same comprehensive feature set as the standard-definition Avid|DS 601 system, which makes the learning curve more seamless. Editors and digital artists experience total creative freedom with full access to a complete range of seamlessly integrated picture and audio editing, compositing, paint, animation, character generation and media management tools.
