EditStar is a nonlinear news editor digital video editing system that is script-based, which links script, video, and audio. It is designed specifically for journalists, and it provides streamlined ability to edit stories. The interface allows users to build complete story packages by dragging-and-dropping selected video and audio clips into script text. The real-time operation of the system maximizes the speed and flexibility of editing. The system allows multiple users to access the same source materials simultaneously. The script writing and editing function provides word processing capabilities, and allows instant access to nonlinear editing.

The system supports several editing methods and can automatically time stories based on a particular individual's reading speed. It automatically adjusts video duration as required to fill the time designated by the selected text and any changes to the script text are automatically reflected in the video and audio edits. The system logs edits, which can be saved to a central repository. Audio levels can be controlled at the system's workstation. Audio and video edits can be split and moved independently on a timeline and once the script has been filed, the complete piece can be aired immediately.

Its features include:

• Four audio channels
• Direct editing on the Profile video server
• Broadcast quality video editing
• Automated digitizing
• Slo-mo and split audio editing
• Voice Over at the desktop
• Video database management and archiving
