Flex AES/EBU Digital Audio Interconnect Cable
This new addition to Belden's highly-acclaimed Brilliance family of audio and video cables delivers the performance characteristics needed for these demanding uses:
- A highly-flexible digital audio patch cable
- An ultra-high performance analog audio mic cable
- Interconnect cable for new, state-of-the-art digital audio mics
Meeting New Digital Audio Standards
Although digital audio is more than 20 years old, the AES/EBU only recently developed standards for digital audio cables. It specifies a data rate of 3Mb/s and a cable impedance of 110 ohms ±20%. Belden 1800F meets these standards and also has a low capacitance value, allowing accurate signal transmission over long distances.
By contrast, conventional analog audio cables have impedances ranging from 40 to 70 ohms, and capacitances exceeding 30pF/ft. As a result, they typically cannot be used in digital audio systems without a significant degree of signal degradation.
Meeting the Needs of Analog Audio
Belden High Flex AES/EBU Digital Audio Interconnect Cable combines a low resistance copper shield with very low capacitance. The result: unsurpassed analog audio performance.
Advanced Shielding for Advanced Performance
One of the keys to the advanced performance of Belden 1800F is Belden's patented French Braid Shield. This is a double spiral shield (tinned copper double serve) in which two spirals are tied together via one weave. The result is a 95% shield coverage-but with lower levels of microphonic and triboelectric noise than either spiral or conventional braid shields.
And to hold microphonics to the bare minimum, Belden uses a paper tape between the French Braid Shield and the insulated conductors.
Ease of Connectorization
Another unusual feature of this cable is the inclusion of a drain wire. The drain wire eliminates the time consuming practice of "pigtailing" the shield for termination. The advantages of drain-wire construction are not normally available in highly flexible cabling, as drain wires tend to retain memory and cause spiraling of the cable. However, Belden's drain wire is highly stranded and uniquely applied, eliminating cable memory. And, the drain wire is bare copper making it easily identifiable against the tinned shield when the cable is being prepared for connectorization.
High Flexibility and Long Flex Life
Few uses require more flexibility and flex life than microphone and patch cable applications. Belden 1800F has been designed with these requirements in mind. High flexibility is ensured through the use of highly stranded (42 x 40) conductors; high flex life is an additional benefit of Belden's exclusive French Braid Shield.
Performance Characteristics and Construction Details
Belden 1800F features one pair of 24 AWG stranded (42 x 40) bare copper conductors with blue and white Datalene® insulation. Belden Datalene delivers a high degree of crush resistance, coupled with low capacitance and a high velocity of propagation.
Shielding is 95%-coverage tinned copper French Braid, with a bare copper drain wire. The jacket utilizes a special Belden formulation of rugged, cut- and abrasion-resistant PVC that closely simulates the physical properties and "feel" of rubber.
