Zoran Demonstrates New Family Of Highly Integrated 1080P HDTV Processors For ATSC Market At IBC

Sunnyvale, CA - Zoran Corporation announced that its SupraHD 780 and SupraHD 770 HDTV multimedia processors are shipping to qualified manufacturers delivering high definition ATSC digital television products to the U.S. market.

Zoran is demonstrating reference platforms using both processors connected to a range of display panels this week at the International Broadcast Conference (IBC) in Amsterdam.

"The SupraHD 780 and 770 single-chip ATSC processors integrate all the needed Digital TV and analog circuitry into a single cost-competitive package. Using Zoran's expertise in analog video decoding and market-proven DTV software, OEMs can now develop and deliver to the U.S. market a range of cost-effective DTV products with outstanding video quality," said Jun Kawaguchi, director HDTV products, Zoran's Home Entertainment division.

The two new SupraHD ICs integrate Zoran's ATSC digital television receiver that was the first to exceed the A/74 requirement for the digital broadcast transition in recent tests conducted by the Communication Research Centre Canada (CRC), an industry recognized independent testing laboratory.

These new HDTV processors support all the traditional analog TV sources including high definition and deliver the following capabilities.

  • Industry-leading high performance Cascade 8VSB demodulator with NTSC demodulation and royalty-free BTSC decoding
  • Dual HDMI 1.3 receiver with (HDCP) high definition content protection
  • High definition digital television decoder
  • Advanced scaling, video processing and noise reduction
  • Multiple analog NTSC video inputs with advanced 3D comb filter

In addition, the SupraHD 780 processor integrates all the key circuitries needed for delivering full high definition 1080P DTV products for the ATSC market in the U.S., including:

  • 1080P full-HD component video input with WUXGA PC analog video input support
  • Market-proven LVDS transmitter for direct connection to 1080P LCD and PDP
  • True 1080i to 1080p deinterlacing
  • End-to-end 10-bit video processing supporting over 1 billion colors

The SupraHD 770 processor, designed to address lower cost requirements by utilizing single DDR2 memory for the mainstream 720P TV application, integrates all the components required to replace existing multi-chip DTV solutions. It supports full ATSC and NTSC functionality required for digital and analog TV as well as high quality video scalar capabilities previously reserved for high-end, multi-chip HDTV solutions. It is capable of driving various LCD panels up to 1680x1050 resolution. Other key features include:

  • 1080i high definition component video input with WSXGA PC analog video input support
  • Market-proven LVDS transmitter for direct connection to LCD and PDP
  • Single 16-bit DDR2 memory interface, 256 or 512 Mb memory
