Modulation Sciences was founded in 1981 in Brooklyn, NY by Eric Small, an engineer with extensive back ground in the technical aspects of radio and television broadcasting.

Small's career began at WNCN in 1964 and that lead him to a position in technical design at A&R Recording under Phil Ramone, then he was Chief Engineer of WOR-FM, New York . In 1974 he co-invented the original Orban Optimod FM broadcast audio processor. As a consultant, Small worked for most of the major broadcasters in North America. Just prior to founding Modulation Sciences, he was a hardware and software designer for the visual portion of the F/A-18 flight simulator at Advanced Technology
