Accom's Abekas 6000 marks European sports debut at Wimbledon

Turner Sports is marking its Wimbledon tennis coverage debut this year using Accom, Inc.'s (Menlo Park, CA) new Abekas 6000 digital servers.

Turner Sports based its Wimbledon operation around the Abekas 6000, using the system simultaneously to serve on-air graphics to Turner's live Wimbledon studio, provide instant feed of the tennis action to the edit suite while recording, and supply material to the graphics artists. Turner used the Abekas 6000 during its coverage of the Goodwill Games earlier this year, but this marks its debut at a European sports event.

Turner is also using Accom's Dveous systems for effects and plans to use four Abekas 6000s next year to make the entire operation tape-free. Turner Studios is also considering equipping its Atlanta control room with another two Abekas 6000 systems.
