AKG Microphone Technology Fits The Bill At Newly Renovated California Theater
Underscoring the reliability and versatility of AKG Acoustics' wireless microphone technology, Concord, California-based Cue Productions recently installed 12 AKG WMS 300 UHF wireless microphone systems in West Valley College's recently refurbished theater in Saratoga, California. The theater serves as the school's performance space for drama and dance and hosts other events such as lectures and presentations.
Carole Davis, Cue Productions Sound Designer/Operator installed the AKG WMS 300 systems in West Valley's theater because of its stable operation and rugged construction. "The WMS 300 is one of the few wireless systems available that offers a metal transmitter case. In an environment such as this, where the sound equipment will be used by numerous people – some experienced, some not necessarily so – the equipment's durability is a serious consideration," said Davis.
The fact that the theater will be used constantly for different types of events makes a reliable microphone system that much more important. "With so much taking place in this venue," Davis said, "it is critical that the microphones operate at 100 percent all the time given any circumstances. Also, the AKG WMS 300 is easy to operate, making it simple to learn for students and sound engineers alike."
Davis has also placed a number of the new AKG CK 77 WR series lavalier microphones in the West Valley theater. "The introduction of the water-resistant CK 77 microphone has been great for theatrical sound," said Davis. "Small lavalier microphones are often place in the actors' hair and having a water-resistant microphone for those applications is a tremendous benefit." Additionally, Davis has installed a large complement of AKG HM1000 hanging modules above the stage and several AKG C1000S and C391B condenser microphones in the new theater.
"The staff and students using the West Valley College theater have offered nothing but rave reviews since I installed the AKG microphones, which is a testament to AKG's high quality design and sound," Davis concluded.
The AKG WMS 300 System offers a high quality UHF wireless system with ten different microphone combinations, up to 16 different frequency options within 20 MHz bandwidth, and the ability to simultaneously operate up to eight different units. The WMS 300 transmitter will provide up to 12 hours of continuous operation with alkaline batteries and more than five hours of operation with rechargeable ones.
