Automated Tape Library Software
A powerful "middleware" package that intelligently manages your disk and tape capacities, automates daily maintenance (e.g. head cleaning, tape retention), volume management (e.g. tape compaction for fragmented volumes) and much more. It is SAN ready, and supports a host of applications.
PetaServe HSM Software allows for the management of a Migrating File System (MFS). This MFS can act as a staging area (or secondary cache) for material between the online RAIDs and the tape archive. This allows for load balancing from the online disks (and brings down costs as it minimizes the need for disk capacity within a video server frame); additionally, it creates a near-line system when coupled with Sony's high speed PetaSite Automated Tape Libraries.
Working together with PetaSite Controller (PSC), PetaServe software optimizes the performances of Sony's DTF-2 tape drives and PetaSite Automated Tape Libraries. This includes faster file access times (supports Tele-File data), sustained throughput and intelligent file handling. PetaServe software also utilizes PSC's API for controlling the libraries, allowing parallel performance and quicker file handing when multiple drives are used. It also allows for bin partitioning and drive dedication for handling multiple data applications within a single PetaSite Library.
For broadcast applications, PetaServe Software can handle Data Mover requirements between video servers and a data tape archive. Supporting Louth Automation's VACP, PetaServe Software is positioned as a economical cost transmission and archive solution when customers are interested in using Louth as the automation vendor. Besides the MAV-70XGI and VSR-2000 (VideoStore), PetaServe software also supports SeaChange's Video Server and can share a library with any video server equipped with an FTP interface.
New Features
Solaris 8 Support
Solaris 8 support was added to support the OS, which enables the host installed by the UltraSPA III processor to use PetaServe and PetaBack software.
SAN Support
Decentralization of data movers (Realizing LAN-free operation in the Migrating File System
distributed environment). PetaServe V1.61 transfers data via LAN, even though the PetaServe Software server host(s) and the (MFS) client host(s) can be distributed on the network. In addition, PetaServe SoftwareV2.00, however, makes it possible to transfer data via Fibre Channel directly among the tape devices and the client hosts in such distributed environments, not via LAN. Moreover, DDA also supports the LAN-free data transfer in such environments.
The PetaBack Solaris version enables users to perform LAN-free backups.
