BigBand Networks Implements Remote Monitoring Services Suite For Switched Digital Video

Redwood City, CA - BigBand Networks, Inc., a leading innovator in video networking, announced recently that its Remote Monitoring Service (RMS) suite is providing its cable operators with insights into the health of their BigBand switched digital video (SDV) systems and is intended to do so round-the-clock. The BigBand RMS suite has been implemented in over 25 switched digital video network locations in North America.

"The BigBand RMS suite represents a paradigm shift away from reactive isolation and resolution, to a proactive approach to monitoring network health," said David Heard, BigBand's chief operations officer. "It's like having a personal doctor that is always available, alerts a patient when they are at risk of getting sick and can help prevent them from becoming ill."

BigBand RMS is available to any BigBand SDV customer. It offers the following features:

  • Proactive and Preventive Monitoring. Continuous network monitoring designed to predict and prevent problematic issues from occurring, reducing operating expenses and ensuring a high-quality subscriber experience.
  • Comprehensive Reporting. BigBand RMS provides a variety of service levels, with easy add-ons for future needs, including
    • Weekly reports -- Activity of all BigBand network devices is summarized and sent via e-mail;
    • 24/7 Alarm Notification -- Weekly reports that include critical alarm alerts and optional customization of alarm criteria;
    • Dashboard View -- Real-time alarm reporting and inventory management of BigBand devices in a single, centralized view;
    • NOC Integration -- Filtered alarms and warnings on all BigBand network devices, integrated seamlessly with the Network Operations Center.
  • Isolation and Resolution. If a network outage does occur the system is designed to detect and isolate a problem, with the goal of increasing system uptime and protecting network availability.
