Callisto and Leitch Partner to Deliver "News-In -A-Box"

Callisto Media Systems (Callisto) and Leitch, Inc. (Leitch) today announced a partnership to deliver "News-In-A-Box" (NIB), an Internet News Service Solution on the Sun™ platform. This system will allow broadcasters to move video seamlessly from the broadcast floor to the Internet.

"News-In-a-Box" was designed as a package solution to provide newscasters, faced with the business imperative to create Internet ready content that more quickly reaches this new distribution medium. Initially targeted at small to mid-market broadcasters, this integrated solution contains the necessary tools for establishing a turnkey ‘Internet-ready newsroom'.

Based around the Leitch VR Server series, the NIB solution provides for both low-and-high resolution video and audio acquisition, low-resolution browse and edit integrated online editing via the NEWSFlash™ editor, as well as rundown to air with or without control of the newsroom automation system. Callisto's Voyager which was designed for the Sun Enterprise™ server and Solaris™ operating environment forms the all-important video server backbone to provide a Video-on-Demand streaming solution for the web.

Once a story has been finalized in the editing process, the content is encoded to create a media clip for that particular story. Callisto's Voyager has the unique ability to access Leitch's video database and relevant meta-data and re-purpose the video for distribution over the Internet, allowing broadcasters and news providers to more efficiently take advantage of new delivery mediums.

"This is only the beginning of what we see as a long and integral relationship with Callisto, melding Leitch's expertise and leadership in the broadcast and news market with Callisto's wealth of knowledge and direction for delivering high output, scalable IP ready solutions," said David Veldman, Newsrooms and Editing products, Product Manager.

Callisto, a leader in scalable video server solutions will be providing its Voyager product, an IP based Video-on-Demand (VoD) system that provides the functionality and scalability to broadcasters to deploy and scale an Internet based news service. This partnership with Leitch will open up new opportunities for Callisto and Leitch in the broadcast markets.

"News-In-A-Box" provides streaming capability which is a key element for customers' wishing to integrate news into their Internet strategy," explains Margaret Craig, President of Leitch Incorporated. "Being a solutions provider means that the customer has more time to concentrate on business strategies."

"This partnership brings together two world-leading video companies in a venture to provide turnkey Internet video services to the broadcast market.
