Ceska Televize Adds Fourth Dveous® for Live Programming

Accom®, announced today that Ceska Televize, the Czechoslavakian State broadcaster, has installed a fourth Abekas® Dveous® Digital Video Effects (DVE) system.

The new Dveous installation is being dedicated initially to the live broadcast of LETADLO ('Aircraft'), an MTV-style show targeted at teenagers. On-air throughout the spring of 2001, the program is a mix of reports and live action shots with fast moving hand-held cameras and featuring heavy use of visual effects.

Ceske Televize with its two terrestrial channels is no newcomer to Accom's high quality broadcast equipment. Its post production edit suites, servicing 17 studios, incorporate Accom's 8150 Digital Switcher with Dveous option looped to the station's non-linear editing systems.

"For our live operations we wanted to use a setup we knew worked well and that our people were confident with," said Mr. Karel VILIMEC, Chief of Video at Ceska Televize. "With our successful use of Dveous in our other operations, and our preference for dedicated DVE capability, we were confident that it was the system for our live work too."

Vilimec had already integrated a twin channel Dveous into the station's news broadcast suite and after eighteen months' successful operation with the system's quality and performance proven, it was a straightforward logical step to use the news suite as a template for LETADLO's live broadcast setup.

"It was a case of copying and pasting an existing solid and reliable setup – with the added bonus that technical staff were already fully trained and competent in using Dveous," added David Stein of Accom's Central European resellers Interlab. "This provided Ceska Televize with the real advantage of a flexible crew with the ability to work across a range of programs."
