Chip Targeting Digital Set-Up Boxes

The integrated device, type MCF40001, combines an MPEG-2 transport de-mulitiplexer and decoder, advanced graphics processor, digital video encoder, and a Dolby Digital audio decoder with on-chip D/A converters for both audio and video. In addition, the device provides interfaces to a PowerPC MPC823 host processor, SDRAMs, Smart Cards, video and audio I/O devices.

To enable the device to de-multiplex MPEG-2 Transport Stream, a separate dedicated on-chip RISC processor is included, with the de-multiplexing function implemented as a programmable module containing its own microcode for maximum flexibility. The MPEG-2 video decoder is a Main Profile @ Main Level decoder that supports both PAL and NTSC systems at full resolution.
