Comcast Cable, the nation's third largest cable provider, has signed an agreement with Wink Communications (Alameda, CA) to carry Wink's enhanced TV platform on its digital service.

Philadelphia-based Comcast plans to deploy the Wink service in over 1.5 million customer homes over the next three years. Other terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Comcast has over 8.2 million US cable customers, and expects to have 1.35 million digital subscribers by the end of the year. The company is also test marketing ReplayTV and TiVo personal video recording capability with their digital cable service in limited areas.

Comcast customers using the Wink system will be able to access program-related information, such as weather, sports updates, trivia and play-along games; request product samples, coupons and other free offers from advertisers or make purchases instantly.

"Today's announcement represents a very important commitment by Comcast to expand the availability of interactive programming and e-commerce on TV to viewers across the country," said Maggie Wilderotter, President and CEO of Wink Communications.
