Commotion 4.0

Commotion 4.0 is an integrated paint, compositing, and effects application designed for independent filmmakers and non-linear editors. High profile filmmakers worldwide used Commotion on every nominated film for Best Visual Effects at the 2001 Academy Awards. Building on this success, the new Commotion 4.0 offers major speed improvements to the product's paint and compositing functions as well as provides powerful new features that greatly simplify the visual effects creation process.

"Commotion was a real lifesaver for all the work we did on the film U-571, especially for projects involving complex rotoscoping and motion tracking," said Bill Taylor, A.S.C., president of Illusion Arts. "We were tasked with replacing a small Italian Mine Sweeper with matte paintings of a German Destroyer. In addition to tracking the paintings, nearly every profile shot of the ship involved rotoscoping of intricate foreground detail, actors, and feathery, semi-transparent water explosions. It's a tribute to both our artist, Kelvin McIlwain, and to Commotion that these shots are so seamless and convincing."
