Merlin is a disk-based multi-track recorder. 24-bit A-to-Ds and D-to-As are state of the art, embedded in support circuitry. Digital inputs and outputs incorporate 24-bit sample rate converters for optimum performance. DSPs are 40-bit floating point to provide headroom during processing such as real-time cross fades and level changes. The device features a custom power supply that is switched on the sample clock to avoid distortion products being introduced to the audio path. Clock systems generate signals that exceed the AES requirements for use as a reference source.

Recording and editing on the recorder is disk-based as opposed to RAM-based, so the likelihood of losing data due to power outages is reduced to a minimum. Data backup to high speed tape takes place at over 30 times faster than real time (mono) in the background while you work, ensuring that rapid archiving of your recordings occurs with no down time. It also supports HOT SWAP removable drives in industry standard carriers.

The recorder employs SCSI and disk technologies and can drop in and out of record at 24-bit resolution, 48 kHz sample rate, on 48 tracks simultaneously, switching back to monitoring previously recorded tracks. It uses a single data drive.

Features:
• Through noise and distortion better than -110dBs (-0.0007%) v
• Frequency response 10 Hz to 20kHz, + 0dB / -0.25dB v
• Cross talk typically less than -103dB to adjacent channels at 10kHz
• Fully 96 kHz ready
• Full, perfectly synchronized waveform display; v Instant zoom to tracks and time while in any record or playback mode
• A set of editing tools based on one of the world's leading editing platforms;
• "Record Smarts" keys which bring commonly used recording functions together on a series of dedicated single function buttons.
