Panasonic Broadcast & Television Systems Company is a DVCPRO50 studio editing VTR for broadcasters and production facilities. It is a compact 4RU recorder offering 25 Mbps and 50 Mbps recording and playback in both 525 and 625 line standards, with advanced digital slow motion and audio scrub capabilities for fast, frame-accurate, machine-to-machine or edit controller-based editing. In DVCPRO50 mode, Panasonic Broadcast & Television Systems Company features provide 4:2:2 signal processing at a low 3:3:1 compression ratio with four 16-bit 48 KHz sampled channels of uncompressed digital audio.

It records for up to 92 minutes in DVCPRO50 or 184 minutes in DVCPRO modes, and can also play back consumer DVCAM and DV cassettes (adaptor needed for mini DV playback).

Panasonic Broadcast & Television Systems Company offers variable slow motion playback (1X reverse to 2X normal speed) for clean, noiseless images in either DVCPRO50 or DVCPRO modes. Any variable speed can be selected, with frame or field accurate playback with optional 9-pin controller. The VTR features forward or reverse shuttle at up to 32 times normal speed in DVCPRO50 or DVCPRO mode.

The editing functions include both assemble and insert editing, as well as preview, review and trim capabilities. Using its RS-422A control interface, single-event and audio split editing are possible with industry standard edit controllers.

Panasonic Broadcast & Television Systems Company comes standard with SDI output/inputs, AES/EBU audio input/outputs, and component and composite analog (525/625) outputs. Optional interfaces include Serial Digital Interface (SDTI) or Component and Composite Analog (525 or 625) inputs. The optional SDTI board provides lossless dubbing in the DV compressed data domain between two AJ-D960s at 50 Mbps and 25 Mbps data rate. A SDTI optioned AJ-D960 can also provide two times faster than real time transfer of news footage to a DVCPRO server in both DVCPRO50 and DVCPRO.
