Edit 6 incorporates numerous enhancements for editing professionals with significant focus in four main areas: encoding and automated publishing for web streaming, advanced vertical editing and compositing, expanded effects capability, and workgroup services for producers, editors and assistants.

edit 6 delivers enhanced interoperability with other Discreet products, including direct timeline access to combustion(TM), Discreet's desktop visual effects software, and an accurate, multi-layered offline-to-online workflow from edit to smoke(R) or fire(R) for advanced non-compressed finishing.

"edit slipstream(TM)" interactive streaming media encoding and publishing edit is now extended to facilitate interactive media encoding and automated publishing with extended "slipstream" capabilities. Users encode directly from the fully functional edit timeline with color correction and audio EQ, allowing them to interact with the content and encoding tools simultaneously. Once encoded, edit slipstream(TM) provides media services that allow the creation, hosting and delivery management of media assets to local intranets or the global Internet.

Advanced vertical editing and dynamic motion effects edit now delivers 99 layers of vertical editing and compositing with automatic alpha propagation and nested containers -- allowing for complex multi layered effects to be made directly in the edit timeline. New real-time frame blended motion effects allow an editor to re-time clips using interpolated frame rates and vertical dynamic motion control for smooth professional quality results.

Work group services for editors, producers and assistants edit combined with jobnet(TM) offers a seamless workgroup environment for editing, media management and client review across a Storage Area Network (SAN). From national networks or local post house editing bays, the Fibre Channel infrastructure in jobnet enables multiple edit systems to share projects in a collaborative -- yet secure network. Using jobnet producer(TM) creatives can review and modify shot selections, add comments to shot bins and create storyboard rough cuts with real-time playback on laptops or non-edit workstation desktops.
