Cites digital media company's rising market share, leadership in broadcast video servers

Frost & Sullivan, a leading international strategic market consulting and training firm, today announced that it has given its prestigious Market Engineering Leadership Award to the Grass Valley Group, citing the digital media leader's rising share of the broadcast video server market, its market leadership, and success of its next-generation Profile® XP Media Platform system.

Frost & Sullivan issued this prestigious award after an extensive industry analysis that evaluated competitors on the basis of market share, revenue growth rates, profitability, and market and technology innovation. In choosing the Grass Valley Group for its Market Engineering Award for the Compressed Broadcasting Vertical of the Video Server Market, it cited the digital media leader's significant increase in market share in recent years and its exclusive status as the leader in the video server market for the broadcast industry.

From a product standpoint, Frost & Sullivan said the Grass Valley Group demonstrated excellence with the introduction and increased adoption of its next-generation video server, the Profile XP Media Platform, which is capable of serving anything from standard- to high-definition video. In addition, the Grass Valley Group maintains strong direct sales channels, which Frost & Sullivan predicts will assert the company as a market share leader in upcoming years.

"The Grass Valley Group has complimented its next-generation video server product line, the Profile XP Media Platform family, with a very strong direct sales channel," said Mukul Krishna, Frost & Sullivan industry analyst. "This has helped them assert their market share leadership in the compressed broadcasting video server space. With their strong commitment to innovation to their product line, the Grass Valley Group is in a very good position to maintain their market share leadership in the future in a very competitive environment."

"As the company that created the video server category, we continue to push ourselves to deliver the technical innovation and workflow and capital efficiencies that our customers demand—and we're honored to receive this prestigious award from Frost & Sullivan in recognition of those efforts," said Tim Thorsteinson, president and CEO of the Grass Valley Group.

About The Profile XP Media Platform
The Profile® XP Media Platform is the industry's most popular, with more broadcast content stored on it and more systems installed than any other. It is also the most flexible solution, supporting the high-quality standards required for broadcast television and low-resolution required for the Internet, as well as MPEG, DVCPRO, and HD formats. The platform also supports the SMPTE 360M general exchange format for moving video and audio clips between compliant video storage devices. While traditional video servers typically offer only playback and storage capabilities, the Profile XP Media Platform, with its Microsoft Windows NT architecture and standard networking and storage technologies is extensible to new applications inside and outside a broadcast facility, including hard news production, interactive television, digital cinema and the Internet.
