Kalypso Video Production Center, Profile XP Media Platform to be used for pre-game, game, international coverage

Nevada City, Calif. – The Grass Valley Group announced that NEP Supershooters LP, a world-class provider of quality broadcast event management services located in Pittsburgh, Pa., will use the Grass Valley™ Kalypso™ Video Production Center and Profile® XP Media Platform to broadcast Super Bowl XXXVI on February 3, 2002 from New Orleans, La. for the FOX Sports Network. Last year, an average of 131 million viewers watched the Super Bowl.

NEP Supershooters will have three trucks covering the Super Bowl: SS9, SS18, and SS20. All three are equipped for standard-definition production using the Kalypso Video Production Center. SS9 will carry pre-game coverage, SS18 will broadcast the game, and SS20 will handle international coverage. Key to their efficient workflow will be four Profile XP Media Platform systems used for clip playback, pre-game playback, and other special features. The NEP trucks also use a wealth of Grass Valley 8900 Series modular products.

NEP Supershooters will be using three of the five Kalypso systems it owns to cover Super Bowl XXXVI.

"The Grass Valley Group's Kalypso Video Production Center was made for the major challenges of a high-profile sporting event such as the Super Bowl," said George Hoover, senior vice president and General Manager for NEP Supershooters, LP. "The capabilities of the Kalypso system and its technology make it the switcher of choice."

"We are delighted to be working with NEP Supershooters and to see the Grass Valley brand associated with a premier event like the Super Bowl, said Tim Thorsteinson, president and CEO of the Grass Valley Group. "Our next-generation switchers, including the Kalypso Video Production Center, continue to be the standard setters for mobile and studio production."
