NewsEdit LT fastest hard-news editing system for field journalists

Nevada City, Calif., March 1, 2002 – Enabling news professionals to work more rapidly in the field—and more efficiently at their desks—the Grass Valley Group today announced the laptop-based Grass Valley™ NewsEdit™ LT nonlinear editor, the fastest hard-news editing system available for field journalists. Combining cuts-only edit bay capabilities, traditional A/B Roll Suite functions, and a highly networked design, the turnkey NewsEdit™ LT system offers a unmatched toolset for journalists that need instant mobility.

The NewsEdit LT editing system joins the Grass Valley Group's complete Digital News Production Solution, which features the FeedClip™ interactive feed capture system, the NewsQ™ manual playback system, the NewsQ Pro automated playback system, and the NewsEdit nonlinear editing system. This solution also includes the Profile® XP Media Platform for ingest and playout.

The Grass Valley Group also announced today the addition of the NewsBrowse™ low-resolution browsing system and the NewsShare™ shared-storage system to its Digital News Production Solution (see "Grass Valley Group Adds Low-Resolution Browsing To Digital News Production Solution" and "Grass Valley Group Announces Shared-Storage System For Digital News Production Solution").

"With the addition of NewsEdit LT, NewsBrowse, and NewsShare our Digital Production Solution is the most comprehensive and integrated product suite for hard-news production available, bar none," said Tim Thorsteinson, president and CEO of the Grass Valley Group. "The kinds of efficiency gains our products create will only accelerate the digital transition of newsrooms worldwide."

LAPTOP SYSTEM COMBINES CUTS-ONLY EDIT BAY, A/B ROLL SUITE FUNCTIONS

The NewsEdit LT system offers journalists a fast, feature-rich, hard-news editing system that can go virtually anywhere. NewsEdit LT supports DV media, up to four channels of audio, and more than 60 Gbytes of storage.

Combining the functions of a record deck in a cuts-only edit bay with features common to an A/B roll suite, field journalists can use the NewsEdit LT system to control camcorder VTRs, ingest and review materials, edit materials with cuts or transitions, create Edit Decision Lists (EDLs), add audio tracks, and send their finished output back to the camcorder for storage or to a microwave or satellite uplink.

When not in the field, the NewsEdit LT system can be used in a networked newsroom with other NewsEdit nonlinear editing systems. This flexibility creates new opportunities for news organizations to improve workflows and time efficiencies. For example, because the NewsEdit LT system can maintain MOS linkages to third-party newsroom computing systems, it can enable station editors to more easily triage its materials for immediate broadcast.

The turnkey NewsEdit LT system is priced from $12,900 and scheduled to be available in June.
