Canon Broadcast and Communications has significantly expanded their portable HDxs line with three new lenses
Canon Broadcast and Communications has significantly expanded their portable HDxs line with three new lenses: the HJ21X7.8B IRSD/IASD, HJ21X7.5B IRSD/IASD, and the widest-angle HDTV lens ever produced, the HJ11X4.7B IRSD/IASD.

The lenses join the Canon HJ16X8 IRSD/IASD to offer a full range of portable lenses designed with Canon's unique HDxs system, which enables the very highest specifications in a small-sized, lightweight configuration. Each lens advances the way electronic newsgathering, sports and entertainment, and documentaries are produced, bringing excellent optical quality and creative options to both HDTV and SDTV cameras. Creative options and control are also increased with Canon's Digital Drive system which provides a range of useful digital controls.

The Canon HJ11X4.7B IRSD/IASD stands as the widest-angle HDTV lens ever produced. Its HDxs system represents an immense jump in width from Canon's previous standard in this field, the HJ9X5.5B, with a slightly lower size and weight. With performance and specs that were thought to be impossible only a year ago, the Canon HJ11X4 with HDxs sets a new standard in the ENG/EFP class.

Both the HJ21X7.8B IRSD/IASD and HJ21X7.5B IRSD/IASD bring HDxs specs to the portable telephoto lens arena, opening up a new range of options for shooters in HD and SD production. The HJ21X7.8B is geared for ENG/portable applications, while the HJ21X7.5, designed specifically for studio or EFP production environments, excels by exhibiting almost no zoom effect during focusing. The size and weight are virtually the same as Canon's past SD-only lens in this category, with the added control of Digital Drive. Both lenses operate with a zoom ratio and focal length previously unavailable in this size and weight.

All Canon HJ ENG/EFP lenses also benefit from Digital Drive, taking advantage of advanced ergonomics and faster digital controls to bring operators a highly useful group of functions. The main features of Canon's Digital Drive include Speed Preset, Shuttle Shot, Framing Preset, Zoom Mode Select and improved maximum zoom and focus servo speed. In addition, a new Digital Servo Demand series is available that also provides the Digital Drive functions as well as the standard remote zoom and focus controls.
