IBC: Avid goes mobile
AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS – Avid Technology (Tewksbury, MA) has unveiled software-only versions of its Avid Xpress DV and Newscutter XP for both laptops and desktops.
Avid is licensing Canopus Corp.'s software DV codec technology to enable the new applications, which are the first mobile Avid editing systems for the professional community. Avid Xpress DV targets editing and delivering web-based video as well as DVD and other media. Avid NewsCutter XP is a low-cost version of Avid's applications for broadcast news production.
The applications will only be available for Windows 2000-capable systems and are scheduled for delivery in Q1 2001. The systems will offer OHCI compatibility, enabling capture and playback of DV25 through OHCI-compliant IEEE-1394 cards, as well as control for many DV cameras and decks.
