KATHREIN Broadcast Delivers Major Project For NDR: State-Of-The-Art Antenna Technology For Hamburg-Moorfleet

  • KATHREIN Broadcast supplies the complete antenna system for NDR’s new transmission
    tower in Hamburg-Moorfleet.
  • Engineering and delivery of FM, TV, and DAB+ systems.
  • Long-term coverage for 2.5 million people in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein secured.

KATHREIN Broadcast is supplying the complete antenna system for the new 303-meter transmission tower at the Hamburg-Moorfleet site of Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR). The new structure replaces the existing tower built in 1960, which no longer meets current technical standards. Once operational, the system will ensure the long-term supply of FM, DAB+, and DVB-T2 programs to around 2.5 million people in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein

“The deployment of our antenna systems at one of Northern Germany’s most important transmission sites is a strong signal for us and our partners,” said Jörg Lippert, designated CEO of KATHREIN Broadcast GmbH. “Projects like this demonstrate that we remain technologically and organizationally well-positioned to deliver tailored solutions for the most demanding customer
requirements.”

The contract includes the design, development, and delivery of two FM systems as well as two systems each for TV and DAB+, integrated into a self-supporting fiberglass cylinder. In addition to the antennas, KATHREIN Broadcast is also responsible for the engineering of the cylinder. The project places the highest technical demands on both system performance and resilience under
complex conditions.

InstallaPon of the antenna systems will take place later this year in close cooperation with the assembly companies involved. Once the new transmission tower is completed, the old mast will be dismantled in order to preserve the long-term landscape profile.
