Keeping Backup Simple: Purchasing The Right Systems

This is the first in a series of three white papers addressing the issues of complexity, compliance, and cost – the primary difficulties that organizations contend with in the protection of data.

To put it simply, data protection is complicated. Simplifying it involves assessing solutions for their near-term and long-term value. Some features- such as capacity, media type, backup window length, and network requirements- by their very natures, limit and define the pool of backup solution candidates. Because these issues are thoroughly reviewed in other places, they are not reviewed here. Instead this paper examines the less obvious-but not less important-issues in simplifying backup.
