Liberate releases interactive software upgrade

Liberate (San Carlos, CA) today announced the availability of Liberate TV Platform Compact 2.4, the latest version of its compact software platform for interactive TV.

The new release will allow network operators already using Liberate's platform to upgrade millions of existing, lower-powered digital set-top boxes already deployed in their systems. US network operator Insight Communications will deploy the Liberate TV Platform Compact 2.4 in its cable systems this month on the Motorola DCT 2000 set-top box, which is already available.

Version 2.4 supports electronic program guides, video-on-demand, local content, interactive games, and TV-based e-mail. The package consists of the Liberate TV Navigator Compact client software and Liberate Connect server software.

This latest version of the Compact client software occupies only 300 KB of flash memory, and is compatible with the Motorola DCT 2000 line of digital set-top boxes. It supports HTML 3.2, forms, frames, CGI and HTML-based e-mail applications.
