SkyStream NetworksSource Media Router is a networking device that enables cable operators to deliver revenue-generating services such as Internet video and Web caching to hundreds of thousands of subscribers over their existing digital cable bandwidth. Internet content that is designed to be watched by hundreds of thousands of viewers at a time, such as live Webcasts and other streaming audio and video content, are ideal applications SkyStream Networkscan deliver over broadcast cable bandwidth. This bandwidth, also known as the "in-band" portion of the digital cable spectrum, is a cost-efficient mode of transmitting multimedia-rich Internet content to a wide audience.
Typically installed at the digital cable headend or hub, SkyStream Networksenables digital cable users to view Web pages that contain TV-quality video, experience high-bandwidth, live Webcasts and download large files quickly without experiencing delays due to network congestion. With the DBN-45, cable operators can also offer a "walled garden" Internet experience with content that is branded by the cable operator and tailored for a specific viewing audience. "Walled gardens" are fully enclosed, one-stop content portals that can be hosted by a cable or other network operator for the benefit of viewers and local advertisers.
The SkyStream DBN-45 Source Media Router interoperates with leading application software and digital headend and set-top equipment from Microsoft and Motorola's Broadband Communications Sector.
