With the increase in computer use in the video industry, there is a growing need for joining together PC computers, which support a RS-232 standard, and video products such as VTRs, which generally support RS-422. To meet this need, Addenda offers three versions, each with different connectors. These adapters reliably and cost-effectively perform this vital connection, completing the link between the worlds of video and computer. Video devices which support RS-422 include video tape recorders (VTRs), video switchers, special effects devices, and still stores.

Many applications packages generate VTR-compatible serial control, including Avid's MCXpress, Diaquest DQTimeCoder, DVision's Cineworks, in:sync's Razor, Dubner's Scene Stealer, Pipeline Digital's ProVTR or any of a number of tape logging programs. For linear or non-linear editing systems, the Rosetta Stone is the essential link between computer and tape machine.

The RS-2/3 is a one-piece adapter-and-cable product that includes the RS232-422 conversion electronics and 10' cable in one single product. The RS-2/3 addresses the common need for deck control from an adjacent PC computer running edit controller software. The RS-2/3 features a 9-pin D female connector for the PC end and a 9-pin D male connector for the VTR end. Housed inside a standard 9-pin backshell, the RS-2/3 electronics require no separate power supply.

Built inside a standard 9-pin-to-9-pin gender changer shell (2" x 1" x 1/2"), the RS-2/4 requires no separate power supply (no "wall warts" to contend with!). The complete RS-2/4 package includes a 10-foot interface cable and a computer diskette loaded with machine control software packages. Both a DOS and a Windows version give basic VTR machine control functions, good for an immediate confidence check when first testing out a system.
