Video Multiplexer Adapter Board

A third-generation MPEG-2 digital video multiplexer adapter board, MediaPump XL, is targeted at emerging digital video applications such as video-on-demand, datacasting and digital commercial insertion. The product line reduces the cost of the DVB interface. Without sacrificing strict adherence to DVB and MPEG-2 compliance, the multiplexer includes features for reduced throughput latency, full DVB-ASI bandwidth multiplexing, demultiplexing, seamless splicing, and enhanced support for table generation and transmission.

The adapter's "mux-adapter" products provide a solution for connecting high-speed synchronous MPEG-2 multi-program interfaces to PCI bus-based servers. Each mux-adapter board can receive and transmit concurrently, and supports bit-rates over 150 megabits per second. Further, input demultiplexing, output multiplexing, and MediaSplice seamless splicing of multi-program transport streams is supported on-board, off-loading the host processor and making it possible to support multiple boards in a low- cost system.

The product can be tailored to a wide range of specific systems requiring MPEG-2 transport stream input/output, ranging from single stream configurations to multiple program streams handling hundreds of program channels. The mux-adapters provide the missing link for integration of end-to-end digital broadcast systems such as video on demand (VOD), near video on demand (NVOD), pay-per-view movie systems, hotel systems, local commercial insertion, IP data insertion, and electronic news gathering.
