HD And SD Encoders From Envivio Lower Cost Of Broadcast Contribution

San Francisco, CA - Envivio Inc. has announced the introduction of two new MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) video encoders and a professional decoder that significantly improve bandwidth efficiency to lower costs for both high definition (HD) and standard definition (SD) broadcast contribution applications. All three products, the 4Caster HD30 HD encoder, the 4Caster B30 SD encoder and the 4View D10 decoder support both traditional DVB-ASI interfaces as well as the Ethernet IP interfaces that are increasingly popular for satellite and terrestrial contribution.

The 4Caster HD30 HD encoder enables broadcasters to contribute high quality HD video in the same satellite bandwidth they currently use for SD contribution. For the first time, HD news and sports contribution is practical within almost any sized market. End-to-end latencies as low as 300 milliseconds make the HD30 an excellent choice for bi-directional news applications such as studio anchors interviewing reporters in the field. Outstanding video quality at below 8 Mbps combined with advanced DVB-S2 modulation means that broadcasters can cover local sports events in HD for the same per minute price they typically pay for SD feeds encoded using MPEG-2.

On Call Communications recently announced that it has specified the Envivio 4Caster HD30 encoder for its new QuickSpot HD satellite news gathering service. On Call CEO Jim Gilbert said, "The key to making HD news contribution via satellite cost-effective is to provide high video quality and low latency performance at a very low data rate. Envivio encoders enable us to do just that – low delay and excellent picture quality at only 5.25 Mbps."

The new 4Caster B30 SD encoder is a significant evolution of the successful Envivio B3 that powers many low bandwidth, standard definition video contribution networks around the world. The addition of Envivio's Extreme Compression technology allows the new B30 encoder to combine the renowned low end-to-end latency performance of its predecessor with newly increased bandwidth savings of as much as 30%. The result is the ability to deliver high quality SD news and sports feeds at under 2 Mbps. An independent audio channel capability allows up up four, completely independent audio pairs to be sent alongside the video stream to enable TV and radio feeds to be sent simultaneously over the same link. Enhanced store and forward capability allows content to be recorded at higher bandwidths and then fed to the studio over lower bandwidth links.

The 4View D10 decoder enables Envivio to offer a complete, end-to-end solution for fixed and mobile contribution applications. The D10 features both a DVB-ASI interface for MPEG-2 transport stream inputs and an Ethernet interface for MPEG-2 over IP inputs. The D10-SD configuration features 2 SDI and one composite output. The D10-HD configuration features 2 HD-SDI and one component output.
