News Automation System

NewStar is a news automation system that facilitates coordination of newsroom production and management tasks from one workstation. The system uses a Microsoft Windows-based platform with industry-standard PC hardware and allows the integration of new tools and standards as they develop. It allows users to structure news programs, time programs before and during live broadcasts, send stories to the teleprompter, and archive newscasts.

The system enables the viewing of edited news stories from any standard workstation and stores video while maintaining links to written scripts. The search function allows users to specify search criteria for the existing database, incoming wire feeds, or for integrated indexed archives. Its' edit function can be used to create and edit scripts, messages and notes. The system can be run in the background while using other Windows applications.
