Non-linear editing simply
refers to the process of converting your source materials to digital files,
manipulating those files on the computer, and then outputting the completed
program to videotape. Of course, there are a few bells & whistles in-between
-- high-tech graphics, audio mixing, character generators and color correctors,
just to name a few. Non-linear editing can include both online (finishing) and
offline (or, rough cut) editing. Henninger facilities feature a variety of
non-linear workstations, including Avid (offline and online systems), Quantel
Editbox and Henry systems, and Discreet Logic's Smoke and Flame systems.
TECHNOLOGY HIGHLIGHTS
- Since all effects and compositing are done in a digital environment, producers are able to add multiple layers without compromising image quality.
- Non-linear systems are suited to all types of programming: effects-heavy commercial spots, corporate promotional & training videos, entertainment features, long-form documentaries, and more.
- Despite a higher hourly cost, non-linear suites are quite cost-effective when compared with linear rooms: integrated finishing tools mean fewer budget "add-ons", cut-and-paste editing features allow faster changes, and speedy auto-assembly process gets your program to tape in no time.
