E-STRATEGY, CONTENT AND ENTERPRISE MANAGEMENT
SOLUTIONS BEING DEMONSTRATED AT NAB2000

Anaheim, Calif., March 29, 2000 – Odetics Broadcast, a leader in on-air automation and content management solutions, today announced it is releasing a series of products over the next year that will enable broadcasters to develop new revenue streams and thrive in the changing Internet-age business environment. The new generation of systems will integrate emerging
e-commerce, streaming video and Digital TV (DTV) technologies with complete content management to control and streamline all aspects of a broadcaster's operations.
Odetics also will be partnering with established streaming video infrastructure providers to create solutions for customers who are broadcasting over the Internet. The company's strategy is grounded in a facility management approach with real-time integration of all broadcast and Webcast processes, from business systems to on-air presentation.
This advanced technology provides a transition to DTV and creates the means for broadcasters to leverage their current assets, including existing analog video archives. Among the products based on this strategy that are now being rolled out or will be available during 2000 are:

  • An IP streaming video spot-insertion system that allows broadcasters to provide targeted advertising in programming delivered over the Internet
  • A complete e-commerce solution for buying and selling video with integrated fulfillment capabilities so viewers will be able to order the programming of their choice over the Internet

  • Web-cast automation and production systems
  • The Roswell™ Content Management System that streamlines all aspects of content and facility management and includes DTV and Web delivery capabilities. Roswell is currently installed at several broadcast facilities.

"With the right technology to effectively access their video archives and other capabilities, television stations could easily become the local Web portal of choice, generating an entirely new source of advertising revenue for broadcasters," said Steven L'Heureux, Odetics Broadcast
vice president, sales and marketing.
"At the same time, the industry is facing strong competitive and regulatory pressures. The Odetics e-strategy engineered into this next generation of products provides broadcasters access to the emerging market for digital services while lowering operating costs and cutting response times," L'Heureux said.

The new Roswell Content Management System supports both analog and digital programming. Its integrated approach automates advertising insertion, broker services, program management, content tracking and final delivery to the end user under the control of a single facility management system.
With the new products to be introduced over the coming year, broadcasters will be able to simultaneously deliver programs on air and through Web-casting while inserting different advertising into each media. In the case of the Internet, the ads can be highly targeted to the specific viewer. These components also will be integrated into the Roswell Content Management System.
According to Mike Wells, Odetics Broadcast vice president of advance technology, "To stake out a significant market position, broadcasters need to implement Internet-age services as soon as possible. Odetics is making this possible with our content management strategy and the development of new Internet broadcast tools. The resulting technology will allow broadcasters to smoothly migrate to Digital TV and offer new, highly-profitable services to their customers."
Currently shipping, Roswell incorporates workflow software to reduce errors, shorten the required response time for last minute schedule changes and streamline media management. The Bowser™ Visual Asset Manager integrates with Roswell and allows users to access their entire video archive from the convenience of a PC workstation.
