The newest product addition to Apex Microtechnology's family of hybrid PWM Amplifiers has been designed to put the highest possible combination of power, voltage and switching frequency in a single 3" square package. It's this combination that designers are looking for in driving high speed motors and for the positioning of large piezo elements.
The new SA12 features a fast 200 kHz switching frequency which steps down to a useable bandwidth of 22 kHz. This represents a performance 10X greater than any other high current, high voltage model in the Apex product line.
The Apex SA07 switches at a high 500 kHz, but its 5A output/40V supply falls short of the SA12. The Apex SA03, SA04 and SA08 all feature high output and high voltage performance, but with a 22.5 kHz switching frequency, they are an order of magnitude below the SA12.
In addition to its high switching frequency, the SA12 offers high output current at 15A continuous and 20A pulse. It operates off a wide 16V to 200V single supply, and when combined with its current capabilities, translates to a power delivery of up to 3000W to the load at a very efficient 97%.
The SA12 can be used with external oscillators to lower its switching frequency or it can be designed in synchronization with multiple amplifiers. Complete thermal protection is provided, including a shutdown input to turn off all four drivers on the H-bridge output; high side current limit and programmable low side current limit to protect from shorts to the supply or ground in addition to loads shorts; and MOSFETs on the H-bridge output for direct temperature sensing of the die.
The SA12 is housed in a 12-pin hermetic MO-127 power package that requires just three square inches of board space.
