The Sabre Single Channel Digital Transmission System operates with baseband video and audio signals
The Sabre Single Channel Digital Transmission System operates with baseband video and audio signals. Sabre provides short haul performance standards in a cost effective package. Utilizing 10 bit sampling, Sabre meets or exceeds EIA/TIA-250-C short haul performance requirements. The system transmits one NTSC or PAL video signal together with up to 4 high quality audio signals. The audio channels may be used for audio or for low speed data (up to 19.2 kB/s). The audio channels may also be configured in any grouping, carrying program audio or other non-related audio or communications links.

Sabre operates with single mode fiber and is available for operation either at 1310 nm or 1550 nm . Use of WDM technology allows a dual forward link or a duplex link over one fiber. Sabre is also available for operation over 50/62.5 multimode fiber.

Sabre is a self-contained unit, including a power supply. The only connections are the power cable, and video and audio signals. Sabre includes status indicators to provide immediate visual information on the operation of the units.
