SGI announces alliance with Oracle - Alcatel spin off

<%=company1%> (Mountain View, CA) said today that it plans to market media streaming software from UK-based thirdspace – a new interactive TV company created by Oracle and Alcatel – on its video server platform.

As part of the alliance, OVS, thirdspace's video server software, which was acquired from Oracle (see Oracle, Alcatel in ITV joint venture), will continue to be developed on the SGI server platform and IRIX operating system. Both companies will work together to enhance the thirdspace video streaming platform and SGI will take the lead with many third-party application and network infrastructure providers to ensure successful deployment.

SGI will sell a complete video server system based on thirdspace's OVS software and SGI Origin family servers targeting those service providers that currently deploy SGI Media Commerce solutions running the OVS media streaming software. thirdspace will market the integrated platform to telecommunications companies planning to offer digital interactive television, movies-on-demand and integrated Web access over traditional phone lines.
