SGI Brings HD Upgrades to Onyx2
SGI's HD GVO (High Definition Graphics-to-Video-Out) card gives Onyx2 users the capability to generate, process, and manipulate HD content in real time and complements SGI's HD I/O board introduced at NAB99. The card supports Onyx2's InfiniteReality2 graphics subsystem, which allows HD animations to run in real time.
The HD GVO supports SMPTE spec 292M for transmission and supports 720p, 1035I, and 1080I ATSC HD formats via software controls. The card also supports the 601 standard definition format.
In addition, a free upgrade to the Onyx2, as well as for the SGI 200, 2000, and 2100 Origin servers now supports 1080/24p and 24psF support as well as 1035I on the HD I/O board.
HD GVO is expected to be available in Q2 2000. Version 1.1 of the software upgrade will be available by download for current owners of the SGI XT-HD on Dec. 15.
