SkyTune Launches Sub $100 PC/DTV Receiver Design

Architecture targets software development to receive HDTV via Pentium III PCs.

SkyTune Corp. (Fremont, CA) has introduced what it says is the world's first sub $100 reference design for PC-based DTV receivers. The SKYDTV99 is designed to be used in 600 Mhz PCs and will be used in DTV trials for ATSC and ATVEF compliant application development.

The SKYDTV99 is based on SkyTune's SKY951VP decoder chip announced earlier this year and the OR51210 VSB demodulator from Oren Semiconductor. The design will support third party software applications to display HDTV and datacasting. SkyTune will demo the architecture at Comdex in Las Vegas.

Evaluation samples of the SKYDTV99 reference design and demonstration software are available from SkyTune. Software applications and drivers will support the entire SkyTune line including the recently announced SKY5201, a PC-based ATSC decoder that Sky is developing with Sarnoff to target DTV and datacasting (see Sarnoff, Skytune Alliance to Target Data Broadcasting to PCs)
