Featuring multi-standard time base correction, synchronization and audio handling, the TBS180 series offers an abundance of options for maximum benefits at a reasonable price

NAB 2002, Snell & Wilcox (Booth L9837) – At NAB 2002, Snell & Wilcox will introduce its new TBS180 of TBC frame synchronizers for multi-standard Y-C, composite and SDI timebase correction and synchronization. Featuring a full range of audio and video I/Os for analog and digital signals, the TBS180 range is an extremely cost-effective package that can be used in both general signal problem-solving mode and for more critical tasks due to its high performance design. By covering both areas, the user avoids the need to purchase a second dedicated unit.

The TBS180 (part of the "Kudos Plus" system design range), on display within the "Infrastructure" section of the Snell & Wilcox booth, utilizes 10-bit processing, improved noise reduction and an optional "super-reference quality" 3D composite decoder based on award-winning Snell & Wilcox Golden Gate technology. Improved noise reduction comes as a result of a powerful recursive noise reducer that automatically eliminates much of the background noise found within broadcast signals. A sophisticated motion detector seamlessly switches off the noise reduction features in moving picture areas.

According to Snell & Wilcox Product Manager, Richard Schiller, the TBS180 proves its cost-effectiveness through a variety of features which are often attainable only as costly options within other products on the market: "In addition to advanced video noise reduction, each model in the TBS180 range offers a comprehensive package of audio functions that provide flexible, video and audio interfacing with an easy to use, integrated, unit, to provide flexibility and save time and money. Full processing amplifier controls allow sound to be routed between channels as required. By packaging these features together, the TBS180 series represents exceptional value in comparison to other products that offer these as expensive options."

Adding even more weight to the series' cost-effectiveness is its openness with Snell & Wilcox's IQ Modular Series of intelligent infrastructure products. Two slots are provided within the TBS 180 range that accepts many of the IQ modules, including distribution, audio processing and conversion functions. Controllable from the front panel of TBS180 products, the user can create a customized product with the desired combination and price.

The TBS180 range features a broadcast-quality 12-bit encoder that is fully genlockable to a composite reference and supports multiple standards. It can also operate as a transcoder between any of the available standards of the same line rate. Other signal correction features include luminance and chrominance gain, black level, NTSC hue, linear horizontal enhancer, Y-C horizontal timing and picture position.
