Snell & Wilcox also to display TrikKey multiple downstream keyers as powerful option for switchers

NAB 2002, Snell & Wilcox (Booth L9837) – At the upcoming NAB convention in Las Vegas, Snell & Wilcox will display its new switcher family acquired from PSP Digital to extend the current line of Magic DaVE, Golden DaVE and HD DaVE switchers. The addition of the SD108, HD108 and SD116 to the aforementioned ranges provides Snell & Wilcox with a broad product range from simple A/B switchers to large multiple M/E live production switchers. The new standard and high definition switchers will be located in the "Content Creation" section of the Snell & Wilcox booth along with other production-oriented products for the broadcast, television and film industries. Also featured within the Content Creation section, TrikKey multiple downstream keyers, also acquired from PSP Digital, can be used with any SD switcher to provide robust companion keying.

SD108 Switcher
The SD108 features a modular design that provides a flexible solution for operators to configure the switcher for specific applications. As a standard starting base, the SD108 offers a two-input, one-program output system. From this platform, additional outputs can be added to create a system based on a single mix/effects architecture that supports eight inputs with two assignable keying levels.

HD108 Switcher
The HD108 is a compact switcher designed for use in telecine suites or mobile applications where space is at a premium. Featuring eight directly accessible inputs from a full program preset row, the HD108 offers two keyers with chroma keying functionality. In addition, a single YUV color corrector and 4:2:2 framestore is included. Its internal 10-bit I/O processing supports all current high-definition standards.

In addition to the standard features, the HD 108 will be demonstrated with an optional integrated DVE, which provides two full channels of 2D HD DVE with four tile capability.

The SD108 mainframe can be combined with the HD108 to provide a versatile integrated switching solution in both standard and high-definition domains.

SD116 Switcher
The SD116 meets the high demands of broadcast and post-production environments and is ideally suited to applications that require a straightforward switcher. Its 16 inputs are directly accessed from the control panel in addition to Matte and Black sources. The system features two keys in its standard version that are powered directly from the control panel along with additional controls for the optional TrikKey to ensure up to five possible key layers. The SD116 is supplied with a 16x8 router, which acts as an input expansion unit for the system mainframe. Additional options include color correction, chroma keyer, safe area generator, paint store and frame store.

TrikKey
TrikKey is a multiple (3x) downstream keyer unit that can be added to the SD108 and SD116 switchers to provide additional switching power. The toolset of each of the three powerful downstream keyers provides the ability to perform full linear and self keys with the added power to key soft edges and drop shadows. Each keyer can be independently controlled through automation, Ethernet, RS-232, RS-422, GPIs, or from of the optional control panel. The SD116 also provides direct TriKey control from the front panel, thus fully integrating the external keyers into the system. In addition, TrikKey also features a comprehensive A/B digital vision mixer to cut, mix and wipe between two SDI background sources and all key sources.

According to Snell & Wilcox VP of Post Production Technology Phil Haines: "The acquisition of PSP Digital provides Snell & Wilcox with a powerful new switcher range that is respected worldwide, along with the TrikKey digital keying system. These products not only strengthen our existing range of industry-leading switchers, but further strengthens our rapidly ascending position in the post production market."

In addition to the newly acquired PSP Digital switcher line and TrikKey, Snell & Wilcox will show its top of the line HD2524 production switcher (complete with "SkateBoard" shotbox control and Quad HD DSK) with new Version 2.5 software. The established HD2524 offers a host of standard features including: built-in keyers, wipe generators, still store and frame stores along with optional chroma keyers, multiple DVEs and color correctors. Designed for ease of use, the HD2524 features an ergonomic control panel with touch screen operation and is available with an optional dual-redundant power supply to ensure uninterrupted operation. New version 2.5 software and "Power Pack" pricing deals will be available for the full range of Golden DaVE and HD DaVE switchers.
