Sony becomes worldwide distributor for Bulldog Software with minority investment
"Our relationship with Bulldog will strengthen Sony's hand in the strategically important business of digital asset management," said Edward Grebow, deputy president of Sony Electronics and president of Sony's Broadcast and Professional Company. "We are pleased to extend our relationship with Bulldog, a leader in digital asset management, to provide one of the most advanced integrated solutions for Sony customers worldwide."
Many traditional broadcast companies are turning to digital asset management and distribution to secure their competitive edge. By 2006, Frost & Sullivan revenue forecasts state that the digital media management software market will reach $2.41 billion dollars.
"Our alliance with Sony allows customers to exploit the value of their digital content with the confidence that they are backed by Sony's global network of sales and support services," said Christopher Strachan, Chief Executive Officer of The Bulldog Group. "Sony and Bulldog's combined R & D efforts, technology integration and joint services will secure our leadership position in the global digital asset market."
Sony will serve as the exclusive distributor and reseller of the Bulldog software in Japan to terrestrial television broadcasters, cable television programmers, as well as the major U.S. television networks and their subsidiaries. "Bulldog's technology coupled with Sony's video servers and storage equipment will provide media-rich customers with the ability to ingest, store, reformat and playout videos, stills, and text content in broadcast-quality video and a low-resolution streaming Internet version" Grebow added.
This year, Bulldog will release Japanese, French, German and Spanish versions of its software to address international market requirements. Sony plans to develop add-on modules to provide advanced capabilities demanded by video professionals, including frame accuracy and low-resolution proxy editing.
